Over 40 years of painting New York City, with art signs installed at the crossroads of the world, Times Square, Father Duffy Square. They invoke the classic memory of New York — yellow cabs, people hustling in the chaos, the color, the excitement of realizing you’re actually here, here at the heart of the dynamo of a great city. Come find us in Times Square.
And this is the New York of Frank Sinatra, this is the line from Midnight Cowboy, “Hey, I’m walking here.” The New York of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gershwin, Broadway Boogie Woogie by Piet Mondrian, Taxi Driver — the grit, the beauty, the garish neon color patterns, the loud New York, the quiet moments, the fantasy, the New York you came to see. It’s here right at the crossroads, so look up, look up and around you.
More people will see this in an afternoon than would see it in a full year on a wall in a dusty museum. More people will see this here in one evening than in all the art fairs and galleries in five years.
“For me, a kid born in Hollywood California, having art in Times Square is like getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
This celebrates a long glorious career of painting NYC and the relationship with the Times Square Alliance. Over the years I have produced paintings, posters, a painted cow (see applied section for more on this) murals, and participated in exhibitions in the visitor’s center. These signs are going up in Father Duffy Square and at Broadway and Seventh Ave, the crossroads in Times Square.
Here’s to the working man’s art, here’s to the proletariat, art for the people.
